He became ruler of Brittany after a period of civil and political unrest, having first succeeded his father Judicael Berengar, as count of Rennes. [edit] Family and children He married Ermengarde of Anjou, daughter of Geoffrey I of Anjou and Adele of Vermandois and had the following issue: * Judith (982-1017), married Richard II, Duke of Normandy * Judicael, count of Porhoet (died 1037) * Geoffrey, the eventual heir * Hernod Conan died in battle against his brother-in-law Fulk Nerra, count of Anjou at the Battle of Conquereuil and is buried in Mont Saint Michel Abbey.
